In 1995, while doing post-grad work at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Mike joined a fledgling jam band called Soup with whom he contributed a unique accordion sound along with vocals and a little harmonica. It wasn't long and they were playing all across the southeastern US. They released their first CD, Laughing At The Fables in 1996, shortly before Mike finished his PhD and moved to Oregon.
Here's a bit from the University of Tennessee Knoxville newsletter about Soup playing locally in March 1997.
The band continued and released more CD's. The history of the band is told in a Georgia Tech campus paper article, written in 2000. Soup disbanded in early 2003. Their music can still be found at Internet music stores.

A special song...
"Much of this song was written about when Mike Macon, who was one of Soup's founding members, was in the hospital this year battling cancer. It's a personal song."
